What to do in and around Beaminster over Easter?

Bridge House is situated in an AONB (Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty), and we are blessed with rolling hills, streams and woods, not to mention outstanding coastline just 5 miles away. Within a few minutes stroll from the hotel you will be out into open countryside, with lots of great walking and cycling routes. We are also lucky to have many beautiful gardens and historic buildings nearby to explore. Here are three not to miss:

1. Mapperton House  (2 miles from Bridge House) – Home to the Earl and Countess of Sandwich, Mapperton is a glorious manor house set in 15 acres of romantic valley gardens. Mapperton has been used as a location for many films and TV programmes such as 2015’s ‘Far from the Madding Crowd’ starring Carey Mulligan. Mapperton is holding one of Dorset’s largest Plant Fairs on Sunday 9th April.

2. Forde Abbey & Gardens (9 miles from Bridge House) – Once home to 12th Century Cistern monks, Forde Abbey & Gardens are a spectacular sight not to miss.  Home to the highest powered fountain in the country, the award-winning gardens include topiary lined vistas, colourful herbaceous borders, an arboretum, a bog garden and swathes of early Spring bulbs and camellias that provide all year round interest.

3. Montecute House (13 miles from Bridge House) – A masterpiece of Elizabethan Renaissance architecture and design. With its towering walls of glass, glow of ham stone and surrounding garden, it is a place of beauty and wonder. Montecute is hosting a Cadbury’s egg hunt on Friday 14th April.
