Golf

BridgeHouse has one of the south's most spectacular golf courses on its doorstep - The Bridport and West Dorset Golf Club - www.bridportgolfclub.org.uk.

'An outstandingly beautiful vista awaits all who play the course with scenic views not only over the sea and shore, but inland to the two highest points in Dorset, Pilsdon Pen and Lewesdon Hill. The course abounds with wildlife and the singing of a skylark is a regular sound to be heard.'

Whilst the Club is the oldest in Dorset being founded in 1891, its modern facilities and contemporary attitude make it very much part of the 21st Century. Located on the beautiful Jurassic coastline with views stretching across Lyme Bay and along the Chesil Beach to Portland, the 6213 yard course is a test for all levels of golfer. Renowned for its friendliness, the Club offers an excellent restaurant, a lounge and spikes bar, as well as a Driving Range and Putting Green.

Wood Carving

A unique chance to escape the rat race for a couple of days. Set in an idyllic Dorset field next to a picture book lake, there is simply nothing like hand carving a wooden bowl from a virgin piece of wood, guided and nurtured by master craftsman, Guy Mallinson. Joanna participated in one of Guy’s first courses which she describes as a ‘truly, memorable experience.’ Bridge House is delighted to work with Guy to provide subsidized, Dorset accommodation for those wanting to enjoy a wonderfully tactile, therapeutic, country break. Boat ‘RIB’ Rides

Bridge House is happy to co-ordinate RIB rides along the Jurassic coast from West Bay to Lyme Regis with the Lyme Bay RIB Charter Company. Whether it’s a gentle water taxi you require from one port to the other and back, or a superfast thrill ride, this is a terrific experience. (Age and weather restrictions apply).

Fossil Hunting

The Jurassic coastline is constantly revealing its riches. With Charmouth just a 20 minute drive from the hotel, we are always delighted to promote the official, organised events as well as send any of our guests fossil finding armed with the correct information on how to find fossils the right way. Childrens’ courses run regularly during the summer as well as more serious adult trips.

Walking – Thomas Hardy Country

Walking groups such as the Wayfarers choose to use Bridge House as a base, because of ease of access to: The Brit Valley, Hardy locations, coastal paths.

Bikes/Cycling

Mountain & touring bikes available for hire through Bridport Cycling centre.

Horse-Riding

Leigh Equestrian Centre. Superb day hacks available.

Fishing

Fisherman are well catered for by the hotel. Local lakes and rivers are well stocked with carp, pike and trout while sea fisherman can venture to the coast for bass, cod and conger eel.

Clay Pigeon Shooting

Dorset clay pigeon shooting is just ten minutes away at the Southern Counties Shooting Ground. Further afield near Dorchester, Dorset, Henley Hillbillies offers both clay pigeon and crossbow shooting.
