| Public Rooms
The majority of the public rooms are in the oldest part of the building
at the front and in the middle. The bar and
lounge are believed to date back 700 years
and are wonderfully atmospheric and relaxing. Both have enormous
inglenook fireplaces – one with a wood burner, the other a
cosy, open fire which normally burns all year round. The lounge
and bar have low ceilings, oak beams, and seat 30 comfortably and
have been gently refurbished in the last two years.
The Dining Room has also been redecorated recently – its Georgian panels,
and wooden floor varnished and painted to reveal their true beauty.
Starched, white tablecloths and napkins give the room clean, contemporary
and luxurious feel. The room’s centerpiece is the genuine Adam fireplace
surround which was originally installed an upstairs bedroom. Many years
ago it was transplanted to the dining room making a spectacular focal
point. Local art including framed paintings, prints as well as decorative
plates and pottery produced by local artists also lend a contemporary
feel to the room.
The Old Conservatory leads from the dining room and provides additional
seating overlooking the walled garden. It’s a pretty, unpretentious
room, split on two levels and comes alive when candle-lit
The Sun Room is the last major public room and can be found off the
middle of the main building. Half the room comprises a large, new,
conservatory that protrudes into the middle of the walled garden.
It is a stunning place to enjoy breakfast while large enough to cater
for larger private parties, conferences and wedding receptions.
